Grok, Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, has officially launched on Telegram, marking a significant expansion beyond its original platform, X (formerly Twitter). This was announced on March 26, as Telegram has just crossed the mark of 1 billion active users.

The growth has been meteoric, and Telegram is now the world’s third most popular messaging service after WhatsApp and WeChat from China. Pavel Durov, the founder of the messaging app, disclosed that Telegram currently has more than 1 billion monthly active users, making the application prominent.
Currently, the average user opens the app 21 times per day, which shows rapid growth in the level of activity compared to competitors. This has been in line with financial performance improvements, as Telegram recorded a profit of $547 million in 2024.
Another appealing factor is the fact that the platform it offers is not owned and operated by a large company like Facebook, which owns WhatsApp. Durov stated that Telegram has not lost its originality as most social media platforms do despite the expansion of this company. Such factors make Grok’s growth possible given that it targets to leverage the large number of users subscribed to Telegram.
