- IOTA Foundation joins the European Blockchain Association to advance the industry as a whole.
- The EBA bundles and leverages blockchain-related activities of European companies, startups, venture capitalists and academic institutes.
The IOTA Foundation is putting down further roots in the European blockchain ecosystem. The European Blockchain Association (EBA) announced today that the IOTA Foundation will join the global non-profit organization to promote the “research and development of new distributed ledger technologies (DLTs), including the IOTA Tangle.”
As part of the EBA, the IOTA Foundation will participate in the Proof of Stake Working Group (EUPoS) and support the “interdisciplinary approach to boost education about advanced distributed ledger technologies and to progressing the industry as a whole through self-regulation, standards-setting and the development of best practices.”
The European Blockchain Association (EBA) brings together and leverages blockchain-related activities from European companies, startups, venture capitalists and academic institutions. It serves as an overarching, neutral body to coordinate blockchain activities across Europe and to provide non-European parties with a direct API into the European blockchain ecosystem, structured as a decentralized, semi-autonomous organization (DSAO).
Michael Gebert, Chairman of the European Blockchain Association stated about the IOTA Foundation joining:
We are delighted that with the IOTA Foundation another major protocol has joined the EBA. As a neutral body we aim to represent the diversity of the blockchain ecosystem. With its unique design, IOTA is an essential part of it. We are looking forward to connecting ideas, people and technologies.

IOTA in Europe
As CNF reported, the IOTA Foundation is currently involved in numerous projects at the European level, some of which are funded by the EU Commission. For example, the IOTA Foundation was selected by the EU Commission under the Dig_it grant to help develop a digital supply chain solution for the mining sector.
In addition, IOTA Foundation is leading the EU-funded “+CityxChange” project, which is currently piloting the smart cities of the future in the “lighthouse cities” of Limerick (Ireland) and Trondheim (Norway). More recently, the IOTA Foundation joined the CHAISE consortium to help design Europe’s blockchain skills strategy.
