FC Barcelona, the world’s third most valuable football club, valued at $5.6 billion, has forged a partnership with Cardano (ADA), a leading blockchain platform. While the collaboration was initially announced on LinkedIn in December 2024, it has recently gained significant attention after Frederik Gregaar, the CEO of the Cardano Foundation, posted about the partnership on X.
The CEO highlighted that, unlike most clubs, FC Barcelona is community-owned, with over 150,000 members and more than 1,200 fan clubs actively shaping the club’s destiny. The partnership focuses on creating meaningful digital experiences for FC Barcelona’s supporters while contributing to Cardano’s larger mission of driving blockchain adoption across various sectors.
The Barça Vision, Andamio, and NMKR Platforms
A core part of this partnership is the Barça Vision platform, designed to bring FC Barcelona fans closer to their club through the power of Web3 and artificial intelligence (AI). Its ultimate goal is to create a digital community that aligns with Cardano’s vision of inclusivity, mirroring Cardano’s mission to foster an environment that welcomes diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
The Andamio platform further anchors FC Barcelona’s initiatives. This is an open-source learning management system (LMS) that is instrumental in helping organizations and projects onboard new contributors built on Cardano. By leveraging Cardano’s decentralized nature, fans can access information about FC Barcelona’s rich heritage, sustainability initiatives, and the fundamental aspects of Web3 technologies via this platform.
They can also apply this knowledge by participating in tasks and fan-driven projects that benefit the community. Fans will earn ADA and other digital assets as rewards for their contributions, with all transactions transparently recorded on the blockchain.
The collaboration will also involve NMKR, a service that enables users to create and sell Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and Fungible Tokens (FTs) on Cardano. NMKR aims to make it easy for the fans to tokenize their assets, thus bringing Web3 to the masses and engaging them with digital collectibles related to FC Barcelona.
FC Barcelona and Cardano have articulated a transparent and actionable roadmap that encompasses several key milestones, starting with the development and launch of the Barça Vision platform. Following this, the initiative will focus on content creation and distribution aimed at producing engaging material that encourages fan interaction and participation.
