- Ethereum Foundation brings Web3 to the World Scout Movement for decentralized coordination and blockchain-enabled scout badges and governance.
- Mihajlo’s Next Billion Fellowship introduces Web3 education for scouts, develops The Scout’s Passport as an identity system for badges and NFTs, and creates tailored wallet solutions for young individuals.
The Ethereum Foundation has been at the forefront of addressing some of the key initiatives for global transformation and now it plans to bring the benefits of the Web3 technology to the World Scout Movement.
Mihajlo, who works at the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) explains how the scouting movement is going entirely decentralized by leveraging the power of the Ethereum blockchain. As we know, scouts follow a general framework and guiding principles agreed upon by all members of the World Organization. However, they have the autonomy in implementing different projects and initiatives.
The Scouting movement operates in a decentralized manner, where each chapter contributes its distinct skills and objectives to a grassroots community dedicated to promoting learning, personal development, and mutual respect.
As of data, scouts have a strong presence online in order to coordinate and contribute to global initiatives as well as keep track of the global movement. Mihajlo is now willing to introduce an element of Web 3.0 to this scouts movement.
As part of his Next Billion Fellowship, Mihajlo plans to begin this journey by creating educational content on the basics of Web3, for the scouts. The key area of focus is how to effectively leverage blockchain along with catering to the encryption needs for online safety.
Scout Badges and Scout Passport
The digitization of Scout badges will have a very clear use case for Mihajlo and his team. The team will be working to create new blockchain-based badges for scouts across the world to unlock and collect. Also, the scout badges will serve as tokens of personal growth and achievements that a scout takes along with. The badges basically help in defining the identity of a scout by acting as ‘soul-bound tokens’.
By implementing new voting and governance mechanisms, scouts around the world can enhance their coordination for significant projects. The introduction of a Web3-based world scouting curriculum has the potential to educate millions of young individuals on securely managing and utilizing digital assets. Furthermore, a world scouting wallet can provide guidance and incentives for scouts in their learning endeavors, while enabling local chapters to create and share their own challenges and badges with the global scouting community.
Additionally, Mihaljo and his team will be working towards building The Scout’s PassportThe Scout’s Passport which will serve as the first foundational layer of World Scouting Web3 vision. A Scout’s passport, functioning as an identity system, would seamlessly integrate with various Web3 platforms, providing an identity layer for badges, tokens, signatures, messages, and more within the scouting movement.

The inclusion of a Web3-enabled identity for scouts opens up possibilities for enhanced social recovery, enabling the creation of DAO scouting groups, exploring novel crowdfunding and governance methods, and tapping into the vast potential of NFTs and digital badges/certifications.
Most importantly, developing a dedicated wallet module for Scouts empowers us to design user-friendly experiences and implement account protections tailored specifically for young individuals, a demographic often overlooked in standard consumer wallet software.
