Polygon Labs has put forward a proposal to MATIC token holders to replace their coins with POL in a 1:1 swap.

This proposal aims to introduce POL as the upgraded native token for the Polygon ecosystem, providing numerous benefits for users and validators alike.

The company said in a tweet that the upgrade plan presented by Polygon Labs positions the POL token as the main token of the Polygon ecosystem. This means that POL will be the sole valid token across all Polygon networks, including the Polygon mainnet, Polygon zkEVM network, and Supernet chains.

In a recent blog post, Polygon Labs emphasizes that the POL token will serve as a multi-purpose token, enabling validators to support the operation of multiple chains using a single token.

Next Generation of Native Assets

According to an extensive white paper authored by a team of Polygon founders and researchers, the POL token offers a range of advantages that enhance the functionality and utility of the Polygon network. Firstly, POL introduces a third generation of native assets, known as hyperproductive tokens.
